The Latin minor introduces and explores an ancient language with profound historical significance and far-reaching influence that extends into the contemporary world. It immerses you in Roman culture and civilization, both in the original and in translation, allowing you to study timeless writings, figures, and examples — of history, literature, and art; philosophy and religion; political thought and law — that challenge and expand your mind.

Curriculum

The Latin minor consists of 5 courses and combines language study with classes focused on ancient history and culture.

Special Opportunities

Students pursuing a Latin minor may wish to study abroad in a location that offers unique opportunities related to the field of study. For example, in Rome or elsewhere in Italy they can continue their work in Latin while studying Roman civilization and visiting classical sites. Or they can strengthen their language skills and explore Latin texts through one of several renowned programs in the United Kingdom, such as Saint Andrew’s University in Scotland.
