The Art & Design Senior Exhibitions of 2024 opened in McCarthy Art Gallery in January. There will be a total of 13 solo exhibitions that will be open to the public from January 23 through May 10.

Meagan Gallo’s “Grown & Gathered,” is a collection of contemporary botanical art. In an artist statement Gallo said, “This work combines my love for plants and my love for drawing.” The exhibition was on display from Feb. 5 to Feb. 10 with a gallery reception on Friday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m.

Artist Statement

This collection of work is heavily influenced by contemporary botanical art. This work combines my love for plants and my love for drawing. I pay attention to capturing the details because as someone with a visual impairment, I am unable to see details in my daily life. For many of these pieces, I challenged myself to draw from life rather than photos. By focusing on small plants and leaves, I was able to place them close enough for me to see them and draw. I spent lots of time outside gathering leaves or plants to draw, as well as being inspired by one of my many house plants.
