Saint Michael’s College is pleased to announce the annual Global Citizenship International Internship Program, supported by a grant from the Freeman Foundation. The College is now accepting applications for scholarships to fund an academic internship in Seoul, South Korea and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (May – July, 2024). These scholarships will help offset the cost of internship placement, professional development support, travel, and housing in Seoul and Ho Chi Minh City. In addition to the time spent at the internship sites, students will have the opportunity to participate in a range of cultural and networking events organized by our local partners in South Korea and Vietnam. This international placement will count for a four-credit academic internship, which will include the completion of academic assignments submitted to the faculty supervisor, and Saint Michael’s will waive the summer tuition for a four-credit course.

Current Sophomore or Junior Status (Class of 2025 or 2026)

SSVN Survival Skills is a social enterprise with the mission to reduce preventable deaths and injuries in Vietnam via first aid training to international standards. Since 2014, SSVN has provided first aid education to approximately 90.000 Vietnamese, who have helped thousands of people in need of first aid. SSVN’s wish is that every family in Vietnam soon has at least 1 person who knows how to do accurate first aid. Besides that, SSVN also partners with Surf Life Saving Australia to provide water safety and water rescue training for swimmers and professional rescuers. In 2022, SSVN expands our education to mental health/wellbeing to public groups and companies as one of our new core products in addition to first aid and water rescue programs. After Covid, the number of people suffering from depression increased and thus mental health awareness is needed much more than before. SSVN is also in the progress of developing nutrition related products. Currently, SSVN offers three core training courses to individuals, enterprises and communities in these areas mentioned above. We have education programs to raise awareness, training programs to enhance the skills. For first aid, we have already developed various products including offline in-class training courses, blended training, e-learning, YouTube, TikTok and a first aid guidance app in Vietnamese for free download. We have lots of resources for community learning, especially for people in remote areas and vulnerable communities. We also recently developed the Hazard Awareness programs for schools with the aim to prevent accidents from happening in the first place, which we are happy to offer free to schools. SSVN team include passionate people and volunteers who are committed with great efforts to alleviate avoidable suffering, disabilities and mortalities. We at SSVN are well aware that we cannot do this alone. In this journey, SSVN needs various resources and contributions. And we truly appreciate each of your support in realizing these meaningful and essential knowledge and skills across Vietnam and furthermore in South East Asia in the near future.
