International Baccalaureate Students

In recognition of the International Baccalaureate’s value, its mission, and preparation that IB students receive for university study and life beyond, Saint Michael’s College is pleased to offer the following admission policy.

Admission

Students who expect to complete the IB Diploma program or who complete individual IB courses will receive special consideration regarding admission and scholarship decisions, and are strongly encouraged to apply.

English-language Requirements

TOEFL/IELTS requirements are waived for IB diploma holders and students who achieve a score of 5 or higher in two or more HL or SL courses that are taught in English and are not ESL/EFL courses.

Scholarships

In recognition of academic excellence, IB Diploma holders are guaranteed to receive at least $18,000 per year in total Saint Michael’s College scholarship awards. Regardless of IB Diploma status, successfully completed IB courses (higher and standard levels) are considered when awarding merit scholarships and indicate that a student has pursued a rigorous academic curriculum.

Credit and Advanced Standing

Students who complete the IB Diploma Program are eligible to receive up to 32 credits at Saint Michael’s College, which is equivalent to one full year of study, or sophomore status. IB students not completing the Diploma Program are also eligible to receive advanced standing and/or credit, which may be awarded for HL or SL courses with grades of 5 or higher. For more information, review the International Baccalaureate section on our Transfer Credit page and the full list of our IB Equivalencies.

Honors Program

IB diploma graduates will be given special consideration for membership in the Saint Michael’s College Honors Program. The Honors Program entitles its members to take specially designed classes and live in housing set aside for honors students.
