Scholarships

Saint Michael’s College is committed to making a private, liberal arts education accessible.

This commitment begins with our new scholarship program that offers discounted, free, and set tuition models to ensure every admitted student can find their path to an exceptional education. Students are automatically eligible for one of these scholarship programs: Flagship Match, Free Tuition Vermont, Commuter Commitment, or International Student Scholarship.

Some students may qualify for even more scholarships. Listed below are premier scholarships that are awarded above and beyond the Flagship Match and other automatic financial aid scholarship programs, for up to four years.

The Presidential Scholarship

The Presidential Scholarship, Saint Michael’s College’s most prestigious merit-based award, recognizes one student who demonstrates exceptional academic achievement, leadership, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to making a positive impact in their communities. The scholarship covers full tuition as well as room and board, renewable over four years, enabling recipients to fully engage in the academic, leadership, and service opportunities that define the Saint Michael’s experience.

To be considered for the The Presidential Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be an incoming first-year student.
  • Hold a GPA between 3.9-4.5
  • Apply for admission by the Early Action deadline of November 1.

Applicants will also be asked to submit a short essay (no more than a page total) addressing the following topics:

What question, idea, or issue has captivated your curiosity? How has this shaped your academic interests and future goals and how would you use the opportunities and resources provided by this scholarship to make a meaningful contribution to the Saint Michael’s community and beyond?

The Don Dion ’76 Catholic School Scholarship

Students attending a Catholic high school are invited to apply for the Don Dion ’76 Catholic School Scholarship. Recipients will receive $10,000 annually toward tuition, on top of other scholarships, renewed for a total award of $40,000 over four years.

To be considered for the Don Dion ’76 Catholic School Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Attend and be on track to graduate from a Catholic high school.
  • Be an incoming first-year student.
  • Maintain a minimum high school GPA of 3.2.
  • Apply for admission by the Early Action deadline of November 1.

Applicants will also be asked to submit a short essay (no more than a page total) addressing the following topic:

  • How has your Catholic education and/or faith experience shaped you, and how do you connect that with the Edmundite mission of Saint Michael’s College?

Merit Scholarships

Saint Michael’s College merit scholarships recognize students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, intellectual curiosity, leadership, and a commitment to making a positive impact in their schools and communities. Various amounts will be awarded annually toward tuition, on top of other scholarships, renewed over four years.

To be considered for a Saint Michael’s merit scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be an incoming first-year student.
  • Maintain a minimum high school GPA of 3.6.

The Saint Michael’s College Book Award for Community Engagement

The Saint Michael’s College Book Award for Community Engagement is a full-tuition scholarship opportunity for high school juniors. Students must be nominated by their school counselor and embody a sincere commitment to community service, issues of peace and justice, and concern for others. Nominees should also demonstrate a degree of academic excellence and rigor.

Nominees must:

  • Be an incoming first year student.
  • Apply for admission by the Early Action deadline of November 1.
  • Maintain a minimum high school GPA of 3.2.
  • Two award recipients will be selected and notified after December 1st. Winners will receive a full-tuition scholarship and a book that represents the ideals of our community.

The Edmundite Liturgical Music Scholarship

Students who have some experience in a performance group and love music are invited to apply for the Edmundite Liturgical Scholarship. This is open to any instrumentalist or singer, regardless of faith background. Recipients will receive $2,000 annually toward tuition, in addition to other scholarships, for a total award of $8,000 additionally over four years.

To be considered for a Edmundite Liturgical Music Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be an incoming first-year student.
  • Maintain a minimum high school GPA of 3.0.
  • Have some experience in a performance group as an instrumentalist or singer.
  • Applications submit the form for an audition here.

The Reiss Foundation Endowed Scholarship

Former President Paul J. Reiss established the Reiss Foundation Endowed Scholarship which is awarded to NativityMiguel middle and high school graduates each academic year and is renewable over four years, provided the student maintains good academic standing. Recipients receive $10,000 – $15,000 annually in addition to other scholarships.

To be considered for the Reiss Foundation Endowed Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Graduated from a NativityMiguel Middle School and/or be on track to graduate from a NativityMiguel High School.
  • Be an incoming first-year student.
  • Maintain a minimum high school GPA of 3.2.
  • Apply for admission by the Early Action deadline of November 1, and notify Daniel Perez, Executive Director of the NativityMiguel Coalition (dperez@nativitymiguel.org).

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

Transfer students who have been inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society automatically qualify for an additional $2,500 Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship (renewed annually).

Fine Arts Scholarships

Fairbanks Scholarship

Renewable scholarship awarded to Fine Arts majors. Both a formal declaration of a major in Art, Music or Theater and an audition or interview are required by April 15 (prior to fall entrance). Contact Professor Bill Ellis in the Fine Arts Department at wellis@smcvt.edu for information.

Paulin Scholarship

Military Scholarships

Air Force ROTC Scholarship

Scholarship for students enrolled in the Norwich University Air Force ROTC program. Interested students may contact the Air Force ROTC Office at Norwich University at 802.485.2460.

Army ROTC Scholarship

Scholarship for students enrolled in the University of Vermont Military Studies courses. Interested students may contact the Department of Military Studies, University of Vermont at 802.656.5757.
