Individual Counseling

Individual sessions (30 or 50 minutes) may be arranged by students who would benefit from support, help with problem-solving, a neutral and confidential space, or short-term counseling. For more urgent needs, same-day, drop-in counseling sessions are also available Monday through Friday from 1:30 – 4:30pm.

Support Groups

If four or more students are interested, a support group can be created.  Past support groups have included the following topics: Grief and Loss, Mindfulness and Meditation, Yoga, Relaxation, Learning Differences, LGBTQ, Positive Body Image, Sexual Assault Survivors, Stress and Anxiety, and Adult Children of Alcoholics.

Consultation Meetings

All students, staff and faculty are invited to call 802-654-2234 for a consultation meeting either by phone or in-person if they are concerned about a student or colleague or to get some assistance in finding providers off-campus.

Crisis Intervention

The counseling staff provides crisis intervention services for the undergraduate, full-time student population. This service is provided in conjunction with the Student Life Office.  See the section on Crisis Intervention for more information.

Off-Campus Referrals

The counseling staff will offer services within our scope of practice.  For counseling needs that fall outside of that scope of practice, referrals will be made to off-campus providers. You can check out some local off-campus providers through this link to Thriving Campus: smcvt.thrivingcampus.com.

Training and Education

The counseling staff provides assistance to other offices and student groups through in-service trainings and educational workshops and presentations as they are needed and depending on counselor availability.
