Greg Delanty, a widely acclaimed Irish poet who is a longtime professor of English at Saint Michael’s College and a resident of Burlington, will appear at Burlington’s Fletcher Free Library on Friday, February 16 at 7 p.m. to present “An Evening of SELECTED DELANTY.”
Barbara A. Shatara, programs & partnerships librarian at Fletcher, states that the program will include: “A poetry reading -- some in translation -- books for purchase (very inexpensive), signings, engaging conversation and (likely) a few shenanigans along with light refreshments.”
Delanty says he regards his recent book Selected Delanty as “among my most important books yet” -- for the very fact of it being his “Selected” work, and for the prestige of having had his work in the volume selected and introduced by the eminent international literary scholar Archie Burnett, who also selected Philip Larkin and is presently doing the complete prose of T.S. Eliot. It has been many years since Delanty gave a full reading in Burlington and it is one of a series of readings he will be giving in the U.S. which include The Irish Embassy, The Irish Historical Society, The Irish Arts Center, and Boston University. He has won many awards, including a Guggenheim for Poetry.
This event is free and open to all.
